How Wagering Requirements Work

Crypto casino bonuses always come with wagering requirements. This is how to read them.

Bonus-Only Wagering

You only need to wager the bonus amount. A $100 bonus with 30× wagering means $3,000 in total bets. This is the most player-friendly type.

Deposit + Bonus Wagering

You must wager the deposit and bonus combined. A $100 deposit + $100 bonus with 30× wagering means $6,000 in bets. Effectively doubles the requirement.

Deposit-Only Wagering

Rare. You wager only your deposit amount. A $100 deposit with 30× wagering means $3,000 in bets, but you are risking your own money from the start.

Game Contribution Matters

Slots usually count 100% of each bet. Table games may count only 10%. A $10 blackjack bet might only clear $1 of wagering. Always check the terms.

Real Example: Clearing a 40× Bonus

You deposit $100 and get a 100% bonus, giving you $200 to play with. The wagering is 40× the bonus, so you must place $4,000 in total bets.

If you play $1 spins on a 96% RTP slot, each spin loses $0.04 on average. Over 4,000 spins your expected loss is $160. Since the bonus was only $100, this bonus has negative expected value.

If the same bonus had 20× wagering, the expected loss would be $80 — leaving you $20 ahead on average. That is why lower wagering is better.

Hidden Terms That Inflate Wagering

Max bet limit: Many bonuses cap bets at $5 while wagering. Higher bets do not count and may void the bonus.

Game restrictions: Some slots are excluded entirely. Progressive jackpots and live casino games are often banned while clearing bonuses.

Time limits: Bonuses expire after 7-30 days. If you do not clear wagering in time, the bonus and any winnings from it are removed.

Contribution percentages: A 10% table game contribution means only $0.10 of every $1 bet counts. Check the contribution table in the casino's terms.

Worked Examples: $100 Bonus at Different Casinos

Casino A: 100% match up to $100 with 30× bonus wagering. Total wagering = $3,000. Playing 96% RTP slots, expected loss = $120. Bonus EV = -$20. Marginal, but variance can still produce a win.

Casino B: 100% match up to $100 with 40× (deposit + bonus) wagering. Total wagering = $8,000. Playing 96% RTP slots, expected loss = $320. Bonus EV = -$220. This bonus is a clear trap for the player.

Casino C: 100% match up to $100 with 25× bonus wagering, but blackjack counts 10%. Total wagering in slots = $2,500. If you try to clear with blackjack, effective wagering = $25,000. Expected loss on blackjack at 99.5% RTP = $125. Slots EV is close to break-even.

How to Clear Wagering Faster

Pick high-volatility slots with 100% contribution: They clear wagering at the same rate but give you a better shot at a big win that puts you ahead.

Bet the max allowed: If the bonus allows $5 max bet, bet $5. Larger bets clear wagering in fewer spins, reducing the total number of times you expose money to the house edge.

Avoid games with low contribution: A 10% contribution means you need to bet 10× more. Even with better RTP, the increased volume usually makes it worse than a 100% slot.

Use autoplay with limits: Set a loss limit and a win goal. Autoplay can speed up clearing, but only if you cap the downside.
